Despite acquiring formal education at a younger age, the process of learning, acquiring new skills, and education should never cease. It is crucial to observe how we handle new challenges and social changes, with a focus on achieving financial stability. In Croatia, gender inequality in business is a current and pressing issue. Women receive substantial support from our global research initiative, "Women in Business," which is dedicated to assisting women in business and other underrepresented groups.
At times, women may not feel like integral parts of the team during their initial years in a chosen industry, but this is changing. More and more women are entering various sectors. Some companies, especially those committed to sustainability, can make significant progress in today's business environment, facilitating women's career advancement. As companies committed to sustainability undergo transformations to improve operations, technology, and ESG metrics, they must:
- Create a transformation plan
- Prioritize needs with an understanding of budget constraints
- Engage in both short-term and long-term initiatives
- Regularly measure progress.
A deliberate planning process also aids women in achieving career success. While some women hope that their work will be recognized by management and that advancement will come naturally, a more effective strategy is to create a career plan and share it with others. Gayle Brim, managing director within Grant Thornton's technology transformation practice, encourages women in the energy sustainability industry and beyond to:
- Learn from people they consider role models
- Be ready to ask for help
- Seek and provide mentoring
- Invest in themselves
- Set goals and measure progress
- Allocate time for activities they enjoy outside of work life.
